WOOdman Axis Headsets: Elevating Durability and Performance in Cycling
WOOdman Components has earned a reputation for producing rugged and reliable mountain bike components over the years.
In 2005, WOODMAN introduced the market's only Dual Bearing System (DBS) headset, a groundbreaking innovation that set new standards in strength and smoothness. This headset left an indelible mark on the industry and was even hailed as "The best headset there is!" by Mountain Biking UK.
Now, let's delve into the technology behind the WOOdman Headset.
In 2005, the DBS headset was a game-changer, specifically designed for high-performance mountain biking.
Why was the DBS headset series designed?
It’s because a headset has to cope with both radial and end thrust loads, which are too much for a single bearing to cope with.
WOOdman’s patented DUAL BEARING SYSTEM is a revolutionary design that uses 2 stress-specific bearings to handle each kind of load effectively. The result is a headset that gives the smoothest performance and trouble free operation. That is why WOOdman headsets are the only choice of the world’s cycling champions!

Looking at our older catalogs reveals that sealing, durability, and smoothness are the primary priorities in WOOdman's headset designs.
The DBS series of headsets, known for their excellence and popularity, have been bestsellers for many years. But we didn't stop there. We continued to innovate, introducing semi-integrated and fully integrated headsets while also launching the lightweight Axis series, inspired by the DBS concept.
The Axis series is focused on the details, for bike headsets, one of the crucial element is the bearings. WOOdman bearings are sealed, with a retainer design for the top bearing and a full-ball and full-grease design for the bottom bearing. This meticulous design not only extends the lifespan of our bearings but also enhances their durability, enabling them to withstand even the most extreme riding conditions.
Another standout feature of the WOOdman Axis headset is the fork crown race. Its design facilitates easy installation without the need for special tools. The metal ring on the fork crown prevents deformation during installation, and a seal ensures better post-use maintenance. As a result, they are the ideal choice for upgrading the headset on road bikes or MTBs.
WOOdman's legacy in making headsets spans nearly two decades, offering not only durability and smooth operation but also a comprehensive range of specifications suitable for nearly all types of bikes, whether for mountain or road bikes.
